Two years ago, I needed to get from behind my keyboard and in front of the camera. I started creating content through blogging. I wanted to start speaking and knew that making videos was up next.
The only problem was, I didn’t have the money to purchase a DSLR camera or fancy editing software programs. Your girl was broke and the equipment was expensive. It almost discouraged me from even wanting to make videos until I found a way to create video content with next to no money. If you want to make dope content but lack the budget look at these suggestions to get you started:
Use Your Smart Phone
Save yourself $400 on a DSLR camera and use your phone. Phone companies are stepping their game up and most smartphones have AMAZING cameras where you can’t tell the difference. To get the best results on your phone, head to your settings and record your video at 1080 and 30 fps. This is great for social media or YouTube and doesn’t occupy crazy amounts of space on your phone.
Get a Tripod
This is the only thing you will need to spend money on. Trust me, I tried to lean my phone on everything in my house that I could find, but it didn’t work the same as using a tripod. You can purchase a tripod to hold your phone on Amazon for under $25. Most of them also include a Bluetooth remote that you can start/stop your recording without having to walk back and forth to your phone.
Use Windows & Natural Lighting
Light will give your video a high-quality look. Instead of spending $50 – $300 on a lightening kit, you can utilize natural light. When recording make sure that you are facing the window.
Edit Using iMovie or InShot
Now let’s edit the video! If you have an iPhone or iPad you have access to a basic version of iMovie (Android folks I got y’all too). Here you will be able to trim, cut, rearrange, change the speed, add filters, text, voiceovers, and music to your video! If you have an Android, you can utilize InShot which allows you to do the same.
Well, there it is! Take these tips and go make dope video content!
